What is Support, Maintenance and Cloud Agreement (SMC)

Support, Maintenance and Cloud are three services from InterpretBank that make your investment even more worthwhile on the long run. With your license, you have access to these services for exactly one calendar year from the date of your activation.

A valid SMC gives you the power to do the following:

  • Maintenance: Download new versions (upgrades) that we release over that year. This is important because InterpretBank continuously receives improvements and new features.
  • Support: Reach out to our best-in-class support team whenever you have technical difficulties or questions.
  • Cloud: Use the features of InterpretBank that interacts with our servers, for example cloud-based translation suggestions, upload of glossaries to accessed from any device, etc.

You receive these three services through an SMC – a Support, Maintenance and Cloud Agreement. Before you can activate a newer minor or major version, or turn to our support team, you need to have a valid SMC.

How do I know if my SMC is valid?

In the first year, you get Support, Maintenance and Cloud automatically

When you purchase a perpetual license, you automatically receive an SMC that is valid for one calendar year from the date of license activation (activation needs to be performed within 30 days form the date of purchasing as indicated on the invoice). During this first year, you may download any new releases of InterpretBank, from new builds of the same version that fix issues, to entirely new version of InterpretBank that add new functionality. For example, if you activate InterpretBank on August 1, 2019, you will get new versions and support till July 30, 2020.

You can also turn to our support team any time. Before your SMC expires, you will receive reminder emails about the expiry of the Support and Maintenance period. The emails will contain instructions to extend the SMC for another year. After the first year, if you wish to continue to download new versions and receive support, you will need to purchase an extension of the SMC for one more year.

Second year and every new year afterwards: Extend your Support, Maintenance and Cloud for 30%

To extend your Support, Maintenance and Cloud Agreement for one more year, you need to pay 30% of the list price of your licenses. The price is always calculated from the list prices that are valid on the date you extend your SMC. Once you extend your SMC, you will continue to benefit from new versions released by InterpretBank and gain access to Support and to the Cloud services for one more year. When you extend your SMC, your new 1-year SMA always starts when the previous SMC expired. If your first-year SMC expires on August 31, 2019, your second year will start on September 1, 2019 – no matter when you actually extend your SMC.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have the latest version, but my SMC has just expired. Can I download or receive the next release?

No. To get a new minor or major version, you need a valid SMC on the date the new version was officially release.

After my SMC expires, how long can I get releases and bugfixes?

To get a new minor or major version, you need a valid SMC on the date the new version was officially release.

Must I renew my SMC no matter what happens?

No. You can use your InterpretBank license without a valid SMC. However, it’s worth having a valid SMC – because you do need a valid SMC to install and use new versions, access Support and use all the Cloud services offered by InterpretBank.

My SMC expired more than a year ago. How can I catch up with my SMA to have a valid one?

You can extend your SMC anytime. However, your new 1-year SMC always starts when the previous SMC expired. For example, if your SMC expires on June 30, 2019, and you extend your SMC on January 8, 2020, your new SMC will still expire on June 30, 2020.

And if you wait for more than a year, and extend your SMC on October 12, 2020, your new year will still expire on June 30, 2020. When this happens, and you want your SMC to be valid on October 12, 2020, you will need to extend your SMC for two more years, not just one. We strongly recommend that you extend your SMA for one more year immediately before your last year expires.
